About Anne Frances Moore
Professional Experience
After passing a rigorous 8 hour examination in American art, including its history, recognition and critical analysis of specific works of art, movements, and market data, Anne Moore was designated a certified appraiser of American art.
Prior to her career as an appraiser of fine and decorative art, she held curatorial, educational and administrative positions at major American museums, including The Kimbell Art Museum, The Dallas Art Museum, The Peabody Essex Museum and The Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin College, serving as the Director of the latter institution from 1991-1996, where she was responsible for long-range planning and the realization of the Museum's mission through the supervision of a staff of 15 full-time and 6 part-time employees (plus 40 student employees and volunteers); management of a $1.03 million operations budget and a 23,000 sq. ft. historic structure. Oberlin's permanent collection, considered one of the finest teaching collections in the country, contains over 14,000 works of art from all major geographic locations, time periods, and media. The AMAM produces 10-12 exhibitions and reinstallations per year, a bi-annual scholarly Bulletin, a quarterly Newsletter, and 1-2 additional publications per year, as well as acquiring several hundred thousand dollars of art each year. Concurrently, she was a faculty member in the art department of Oberlin College. She was a popular lecturer on a variety of topics throughout her museum career.
Anne received B.A. and M.A degrees in art history from Columbia University and Hunter College and a Certificate in Appraisal Studies from New York University. While her graduate work was in Italian Renaissance painting, she has a broad knowledge of the fine and decorative art of all periods and cultures. In recent years her interests have focused on American painting and decorative art. She has served as vice president of the Board of the Intermuseum Conservation Association and is currently on the Board of the Appraisers Association of America.
In addition, she is the owner of Anne Frances Moore Fine Art, a dealership specializing in 'Fine American Portrait Painting from 1850-1930', and is co-authoring a book on American Portraits.
She is a member of the International Foundation for Art Research, a past member of the Association of Art Museum Directors, and a member of the Century Association.
Anne Moore's museum background establishes her expertise in recognizing and identifying works of art, while her experience in conservation insures accurate assessment of condition issues and associated costs. Her rigorous training in appraisal practice insures adherence to the highest standards in the profession and legally defendable documents.
